If you were thinking of signing up for Amazon Prime for $7.99/month to get free shipping for the holidays, it looks like you’re out of luck. A company spokesperson tells AllThingsD that the new monthly membership is no longer being offered.

The company says, “We regularly test new options for our customers. At this time, we’ve completed our test and are no longer signing up new customers for Amazon Prime monthly memberships.”

Amazon normally charges $79/year for Amazon Prime, which includes video streaming and Kindle book rentals in addition to free shipping. The test monthly rate had added up to more than $95 over the course of the year, so it seemed tailored for people who were planning to stop using Amazon Prime after taking advantage of the shipping perk for holiday gifts.

The $7.99/month was also interesting because it’s the same rate as a Hulu Plus or Netflix streaming subscription.
