At the Kindle launch event last week, Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos spoke briefly about an effort to allow consumers to purchase physical goods from within applications. Now, we’re getting the first look at how this can work on the Kindle Fire HD.

Activision today said that players of the its Skylanders Cloud Patrol game will now be able to purchase actual toys from inside the 99 cent Kindle Fire app.

“Leveraging the ‘always logged in’ feature of the Kindle Fire, buying the physical toy in-app will unlock the digital character immediately via Amazon’s trusted 1-Click Purchasing, while the physical toy is shipped to the user,” Activision wrote in a press release.

Bezos made it clear during remarks last week that they want their line of tablets to serve as an entry point into selling more stuff.

“We want to make money when people use our devices, not when they buy our devices,” said Bezos.

Starting with games, one could see the potential of the in-app purchasing to expand to a laundry list of items, including housewares, books and electronics. Tricia Duryee at All Things D writes:

“By enabling developers to sell physical goods inside of games, it will not only open up a new way for them to monetize their applications, but it will also be a key point of differentiation for Amazon in going up against Apple and Google, which don’t have physical distribution capabilities.”
