Adapx has landed $3 million in additional funding and named former retired U.S. Army Vice Chief of Staff Peter W. Chiarelli to its board of directors. The Seattle company’s Capturx software is used to streamline data capture in the field, helping military personnel or corporate workers easily send handwritten data on tablets, paper froms, maps or notebooks.

The Adapx technology is being used in the oil & gas, utilities and health care industries, but the company is best known for its work with the military.

“On the defense side, we’re investing in more handwriting, speech, and sketch products that enable soldiers to quickly capture and share mission plans using handhelds, vehicle systems, and other touchscreen devices,” said Adapx Vice President of Marketing Ted Gauld.

Total funding in  Adapx, with employs 50 people, now stands at $32 million. Investors in the round include  existing investors OVP Venture Partners, Paladin Capital Group, Pelion Ventures, and Northwest Tech Ventures.

Chiarelli, a graduate of Queen Anne High School and Seattle University, is a  long-time advocate for wounded warriors and an expert in modernizing mission command systems.

“Rapid change in technology is creating new opportunities for warfighters and civilian teams to improve how they plan, collaborate and track operations in the field,” said General Chiarelli in a press release. “The data capture and user interface solutions from Adapx will revolutionize systems for mission planning, simulation, logistics and health care – speeding up operations and digitally capturing critical medical information in combat environments.”
