Mayor McGinn

Politicians and city leaders, as a group, aren’t generally known for their brevity. But Mike McGinn, the mayor of Seattle, will have no choice but to keep things short and to-the-point during one upcoming address.

McGinn has agreed to give a talk at the next Ignite Seattle, the popular series of talks on a wide variety of topics, with the motto, “Enlighten us, but make it quick.” Speakers are limited to 20 slides, each auto-advancing every 15 seconds, for a total of five minutes.

Ignite started in Seattle and has gone on to become a global phenomenon with Ignite events around the world.

The next Ignite Seattle event, featuring McGinn as part of the lineup, will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at Town Hall Seattle. The mayor announced his involvement via Twitter this afternoon.

The topic of McGinn’s talk hasn’t yet been announced.

Who knows, maybe this will catch on in the political world. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Obama and Romney boil things down to a pair of dueling Ignite talks?
