OK, we admit it, we tuned in to see the latest in the Anthony Weiner debacle today, as the Congressman admitted to sending lewd photographs and messages to women via Twitter, including the one that was sent to a college student from Bellingham, Wash., north of Seattle. He had been publicly denying it since last week.
From a technology perspective, there was actually an interesting moment toward the end, when a reporter asked how the incident might impact the role of social media in communications betweens politicians and constituents.
Give Weiner credit, at least, for his response: “There’s nothing inherently wrong with social media,” he said. “What I did was a mistake.”
The Congressman, who apologized to the Seattle-area student, said he doesn’t intend to relinquish his House seat.
We’ll see how long that lasts.
