Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire today named a Microsoft veteran, Bharat Shyam, as the state’s new chief information officer.
Shyam, who started at Microsoft in 1993, was most recently a general manager for the company’s Windows Azure cloud computing platform. He worked on products including Internet Explorer, Windows and Xbox Live during his tenure at the company.
“I am incredibly impressed with Bharat,” Gregoire said in a news release. “With nearly 20 years of experience at Microsoft, he brings a deep understanding of software and technology. And his level of enthusiasm for the position is unmatched. I welcome him to this role, and know the citizens of Washington state will benefit from his service.”
Shyam’s first day is tomorrow, and his annual salary will be $147,154, according to the state.
