Brian Fioca has joined Zapd

Four years ago, Brian Fioca co-founded RescueTime to help individuals better manage how they spend their time in front of a computer. Now, the developer is moving on. Fioca has joined fast-growing Seattle mobile upstart Zapd where he’ll be working as a lead architect alongside founder Kelly Smith, basically serving as an “an all-purpose, proactive generalist.”

“I’ll be helping Kelly … and the team to design and shape and code the next version of the Zapd mobile website creator, focusing on user experience and engagement, making it easier for users to tell their stories and share their photos and include their friends from their mobile devices,” Fioca tells GeekWire. “I have a lot of experience doing whatever needs to get done to get product out the door and I can’t wait to dive in on a new product in a new market.”

The former Jobster employee calls Zapd the hottest mobile startup in Seattle, and a view that was backed up in June when Madrona, Rob Glaser, Second Avenue Partners and others pumped $3.5 million into the company. RescueTime, meanwhile, is doing well as a profitable company with more than 400,000 users. Just last week, we reported that former Zulily employee Robby Macdonell had joined RescueTime as vice president of product development.

Kevin Tate has joined Portland-based ShopIgniter, a Madrona-backed social commerce startup, as chief marketing officer. Tate — who noted that social networks are “fundamentally changing how products are discovered, bought and shared” — is the former vice president of business development for the Dachis Group and co-founder of StepChange.

Mark Reich plans to lead Dexter + Chaney’s new Operations Group, a business unit focused on solutions for construction project collaboration. Reich joined Dexter + Chaney — a maker of construction management software — in 2009 as Vice President of Corporate Development.

Revel Consulting has hired Jim Bennett as director of the firm’s mobile practice. A former employee of McCaw Cellular, the grad of Wright State University most recently served as Senior Vice President for Frontier Communications’ Wireless Strategy and Operations.
