Swype, Zulily, BuddyTV, others named finalists for Seattle 2.0 Awards

It’s that time of year when the Seattle startup community pats itself on the back. The Seattle 2.0 Awards are coming up May 5th, and today organizer Marcelo Calbucci released the names of nominees in the 10 categories. So, without further ado, here you go:

  • Best Consumer Startup: Bonanza, BuddyTV, Cheezburger Network, Swype and Zulily.
  • Best B2B Startup: Appature, Apptio, BigDoor Media, SEOmoz and Skytap.
  • Best Mobile Startup: AppStoreHQ, Ground Truth, SPARQCode, Swype and Zaarly.
  • Best Non-Profit Startup: Jolkona, OneBusAway, School District Finder, SeeYourImpact and Vittana.
  • Best Startup Acquisition: Gist, Jambool, Picnik, Precision Polling and WhatCounts.
  • Best Startup CEO: Andy Liu (BuddyTV), Ben Huh (Cheezburger), Dan Shapiro (SparkBuy), Glenn Kelman (Redfin)and Sunny Gupta (Apptio).
  • Best Startup Technologist: Adam Doppelt (CubeDuel), Bill Baxter (BuddyTV), Cliff Kushler (Swype), Daryn Nakhuda (TeachStreet) and Joe Heitzeberg (Media Piston).
  • Best Startup Designer: Aviel Ginzburg (Simply Measured), Jay Dokken (Design Commission), Kyle Kesterson (Giant Thinkwell), Matt Shobe (Big Door) and Tony Wright (CubeDuel).
  • Best Angel Investor or VC: Andy Sack (Founder’s Co-op), Bill Bryant (DFJ), Chris DeVore (Founder’s Co-op), Chris Howard (Ignition) and Jeff Bezos (Bezos Expeditions).
  • Best Service Provider to Startups: Adam Philipp (Aeon Law), Craig Sherman (WSGR), Geir Hansen (Silicon Valley Bank), Joe Wallin (Davis Wright Tremaine) and Megan Muir (DLA Piper).

The selection committee (of which I was part of) chose the finalists from 1,614 nominations spread across 399 companies. Now, it is up to the rest of the community to vote on their favorites. (Voting runs until April 28th).

    How is Picnik eligible? They were acquired before last year’s awards. And Zaarly? Stupid that a company with just a splash page can be considered one of Seattle’s five best. Maybe next year.

    It would be great if all these finalists had the organization they work with alongside. Not all of us are as savvy as we pretend to be… :-)

      Agreed. I just went back and added those in. I think I rattled off
      most from memory. I need to get a life. :)

        The extra info makes it look stranger. SparkBuy came out of beta like yesterday, Zaarly isn’t even available, CubeDuel is a weekend project, Aviel Ginzburg is a developer, Kyle Kesterson is an artist.

        Also, OneBusAway and School District Finder do not appear to be non-profits.
