Surprise: Kindle Fire ships today, Kindle Touch tomorrow

If you pre-ordered a new Kindle device, it’s almost time to start checking the front stoop.

Amazon says its Kindle Fire tablet is shipping today, a day earlier than expected, while its Kindle Touch devices will ship tomorrow, six days earlier than previously announced.

The company made the announcements a few minutes ago, as the first hands-on reviews of the Kindle Fire start to trickle out, offering a mixed view of the experience.

“We’re thrilled to be able to ship Kindle Fire to our customers earlier than we expected. Kindle Fire quickly became the bestselling item across all of Amazon.com, and based on customer response we’re building millions more than we’d planned,” says Dave Limp, Amazon Kindle vice president, in a news release.

    there is a flip side.

as reviews are coming in, some of us anticipated we’d have a few days before shipment to decide whether to cancel.  that’s been taken away.

fewer users will ‘return’ than might have canceled, so i understand amazon’s strategy here.  but it’s disconcerting, with the mixed reviews of the Fire, and so little information on the Touch still out there.

could be the negatives are being puffed up by the drooling pro-Apple hordes, but I’m not sure, I wish i had the time i’d planned on to reconsider my decision to purchase.

You could always try it for yourself and return it if you don’t like it.
