New data released by Experian Hitwise today gives a snapshot of the types of people who are adopting Google+, and also those abandoning it after giving it a try, based on the research firm’s sample of users.

In short, according to the firm’s data, Google+ seems to be falling out of favor among the “colleges and cafes” crowd, generally younger people without children.

However, it’s seeing an increase in interest from the “kids and cabernet” segment — defined as “prosperous, middle-aged married couples living child-focused lives in affluent suburbs.” That’s a group that hasn’t embraced Facebook as much as the rest of the population, according to the Experian Hitwise data.

Of course, no one fits perfectly into any demographic profile, but I’m probably closer to “kids and cabernet” at this point than to “colleges and cafes.” But my biggest problem continues to be finding the time for a third social network, beyond Twitter and Facebook. (I’ve never been a heavy LinkedIn user.) I’m using Google+ sometimes, but not as much as I’d like to, because I find myself prioritizing the incumbent social networks.

I’d be curious to hear how all of you are balancing all of this, assuming you are.

And in case you missed it, on this subject, here’s a video about Google+ that went viral this week. (Via GigaOm)
