The planned Starbucks extends to the far corner in this picture, at Terry Avenue and Republican Street.

Amazon employees in need of an after-work drink will soon have even more options, thanks to another Seattle corporate giant, Starbucks.

Sign signals plans for beer at wine at the new Starbucks at Amazon.com.

The coffee retailer has applied for a liquor license to serve beer and wine at a large new location at 440 Terry Ave. N., on the first floor of one of the buildings in Amazon’s new headquarters complex.

It’s part of a boom in restaurants and coffee shops in and around the Amazon campus in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood.

Starbucks has a handful of existing locations in the Pacific Northwest that serve beer and wine, but the Amazon campus represents a high-profile location for testing the strategy.

We’ve asked Starbucks for more details, including the size of the store and its opening date, and we’ll update this post when we hear back.

Update: We’re hearing that the store is scheduled to open early next year, but it won’t feature wine and beer until later in 2012.

In the meantime, the coffee company is promoting the store with this very Amazon-oriented sign in the window.

(Thanks to Adam for the tip!)
