Novel Inc., a Redmond startup that uses game mechanics to help corporations hire more qualified employees, has raised $1.6 million in funding, according to a SEC filing released today.

In an email to GeekWire, a company representative declined to comment.

Founded in 2009 by Brayden William Blaine Olson, the company raised initial capital from former Medtronic CEO Bill George. Listed as directors in the most recent SEC filing are Alan Chaffee, Joel McLean and Douglas Good.

“Novel’s realistic job previews generate demonstrated behavior in an accessible, engaging web-based experience for your job seeking candidates,” the company writes on its Web site.

Advisers to the company include gaming veteran Ed Fries; WeMade Entertainment CEO AJ Redmer; and business coach Corey Hansen.

Fortune reported on the company’s activities in August, calling it a “Farmville for job seekers” and noting that the product can be used to used by employers to screen and train workers.
