Blake Krikorian

Now, this is certainly interesting timing. As Amazon.com reportedly weighs a bid for Hulu and plans a roll out a new Android-based tablet computer, the Seattle online retailer has added Blake Krikorian to its board, according to a report by Kara Swisher at All Things D.

Krikorian might not be a household name. But he’s got some serious chops in the online video and media business, previously co-founding Sling Media. He served as CEO of the maker of the Slingbox video device from 2004 to 2009. The company was sold to Echostar in 2007 for $380 million.

Swisher is a well sourced technology journalist, and nothing leads us to doubt the report which is based on several anonymous sources “close to the situation.” But changes of this sort must be noted in SEC filings, which turned up nothing as of Thursday morning. (We have an email in to Amazon PR for more details and we’ll update the post as we learn more).

Krikorian — an angel investor who has backed companies such as Lytro, Clipboard, Chirply — declined to comment when contacted by All Things D.

Amazon’s board now consists of Jeff Bezos, Madrona Venture Group’s Tom A.  Alberg; KPCB’s William B. (Bing) Gordon; USC’s John Seely Brown; April Management’s Alain Monié; HP’s Jonathan Rubinstein; former Reader’s Digest executive Thomas O. Ryder; and the Smithsonian Institute’s Patricia Q.  Stonesifer.

UPDATE: Amazon just confirmed the board appointment in a SEC filing.
