Intellectual Ventures this morning announced a patent licensing deal with Pantech, a large mobile handset maker in Korea, and said the company would be dismissed from a lawsuit that Intellectual Ventures filed in July with the International Trade Commission.

“Pantech has a legacy of creating innovative products and also realizes that working with us – an outside company focused on intellectual property – will help strengthen its IP strategy overall, making it a stronger and more competitive company,” said Melissa Finocchio, Intellectual Ventures chief litigation counsel, in a post announcing the deal this morning.

It’s the latest in a series of patent agreements and legal maneuvers by Bellevue-based Intellectual Ventures, which run by former Microsoft technology chief Nathan Myhrvold. Intellectual Ventures has announced a series of licensing deals over the past year and has filed suit against companies including Symantec, Trend Micro, Dell and HP. Last week Intellectual Ventures sued Motorola, which is in the process of being acquired by Google, one of Intellectual Ventures’ investors.

Intellectual Ventures was thrust into the national spotlight over the summer as a result of an investigative piece by This American Life.
