It seems like ages ago that I was sitting in my college dorm room listening to Nirvana’s Nevermind on my old Onkyo stereo system. It certainly was a transformative album, and for those impacted by the band’s 1991 release, here’s your chance to relive the glory days of Seattle’s grunge era.

Seattle startup Treemo Labs, working in conjunction with Eagle Rock Entertainment, has developed an iPad app for Nirvana’s classic album.

The $5.99 app features a number of interactive features, from photo galleries to video interviews with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Users also can comment about the songs, videos or photo galleries, using Facebook Connect.

Treemo founder Brent Brookler said that they created the Nirvana app using a new technology called Appavideo, and chose Nevermind as the first album to showcase the technology as a “Seattle gesture.”

“Think of Appavideo iPad apps as a replacement of the dying DVD,” Brookler says.

The company is currently in the process of building “dozens” of the new music apps, and Eagle Rock has released two others for the rock bands Rush and The Rolling Stones.

“We work directly with content owners for rights,” said Brookler. “We have sophisticated, yet easy to use, drag and drop web based tools to build and manage these apps.”
