I always get a kick out of politicians who try to look hip by mentioning new technologies.

And some recent comments made by presidential hopeful Mitt Romney certainly provided a chuckle.

At a recent speech introducing his jobs plan, Romney noted that the 150-page policy document was available on Amazon’s Kindle.

“If you don’t happen to get one in your hand, you can go on Amazon Kindle. And I don’t know if it is free or not, I hope so, but maybe not. You can get one of these, and take a look at it. It is in color on Kindle.”

Jon Stewart of The Daily Show had a bit of fun with Romney’s botched statement. “First of all, you don’t know how much your economic plan costs people to get? Alright,” said Stewart. (It is free, by the way).

Funny. But what I was even more perplexed by was Romney’s comment about the ebook being available in color on Kindle. Unless the former Massachusetts Governor has seen some new Amazon Tablet, Kindles are primarily still made with black and white screens, aren’t they? (To be fair to Mitt, you can read the economic proposal in color through Kindle’s iPhone or iPad app, so maybe that’s what he meant).

But Romney’s comments got even weirder — as you can see in The Daily Show clip below — when he compared President Barack Obama to a pay phone. “President Obama’s strategy is a pay phone strategy, and we are in a smartphone world,” said Romney as he held up what appeared to be an iPhone.
