Slalom Consulting's Gary Bedell is the winner of GeekWire's moustache competition

We saw a lot of great whisker wonders over the past week as dudes from the Seattle tech community participated in GeekWire’s Movember mustache contest. But Gary Bedell’s wonderfully crafted handlebar — highlighted by geeky black eyeglasses and some big chops — scratched the itch of the judging committee and readers.

Reader Nikki Chau summed up Bedell’s creation perfectly: “Great use of form and space. Nice texture.”

We agree. As a result, Bedell has won a ticket to the GeekWire Gala on December 8th and a special prize package designed specifically for the discerning man.

This is Bedell’s second year of participating in Movember, a moustache competition designed to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues.

A user experience designer at Slalom Consulting, Bedell served as the captain of the company’s stache team this year. He recruited over 25 co-workers to participate, and raised more than $5,400.

That fits nicely with the theme of the GeekWire Gala, which is focusing on “Geeks Who Give Back.” We’re donating a portion of the proceeds from the GeekWire 2012 Calendar — which will be unveiled at the party — to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity. Guests are also encouraged to bring canned food and a soft toy to earn special prizes at the event. And, as always, we’ve got a few other special surprises in store.

Tickets for the GeekWire Gala are going fast, and we’re likely going to be forced to cut off registration early next week. So, if you want to come out and celebrate the “Year in Geek,” make sure to get your tickets today.

And, just a reminder, if moustaches aren’t your thing, GQ’s “worst dressed in tech” Ben Huh will be helping us choose the “Best Dressed” man and woman at the gala. So, break out your favorite cocktail dress or Stormtrooper suit, to win special prize packages from Capelli’s and Lake Union Hair and Skin Care.

Thanks to our sponsors – ZillowBingFilter,  King 5FacebookthePlatformStartup Weekend, and Heinz Marketing– for helping to make the GeekWire Gala possible.
