Amazon.com this morning debuted a new e-book discount program, Kindle Daily Deal, that will offer one Kindle book each day at a specially discounted price. Depending on the quality of the selected titles, this promises to be highly interesting for voracious readers or deal hounds, or people who are some combination of the two.
The first book is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo, a Newbery award-winning author. The e-book normally sells for $5.59 but is going for 75 percent off, or $1.39, for the duration of the deal today.
It’s not a new approach for the company. Amazon offers a similar program with its Android Appstore, offering one premium app per day for free. Amazon MP3 also offers daily deals via its Twitter account.
Separately, the company has invested in daily deal service Living Social, and launched the AmazonLocal deal service in markets including Seattle and Boise.
Amazon says the Kindle Daily Deal will be posted each day at midnught on Twitter, and frequently on Facebook and on the Kindle Daily Post blog. The deals also appear on the product page for the selected title.
