HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone giant which maintains North American operations in Bellevue, posted record profit during the third quarter as demand continues to rise for phones made with the Android operating system. The company’s net income was $608 million for the quarter.  It also posted its sixth straight quarter of record sales.

Analysts tell The Wall Street Journal that HTC could gain even more market share in the smartphone market given the specifications and price point of the new iPhone 4S, which disappointed some consumers who were expecting a new hardware design.

HTC has been rolling out a series of new phones, including the new Rhyme on Verizon and the new Amaze on T-Mobile.

HTC is also a maker of devices for Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. Last month, GeekWire reported that HTC is looking for a big chunk of office space in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.
