February 2011: End of the Danger era for Sidekick
As T-Mobile USA starts to pursue a turnaround plan, under the leadership of new president and CEO Philipp Humm, the company confirms rumors that it will shut down the Danger service for existing Sidekick devices.
“After May 31, 2011, the Danger Service (a subsidiary of Microsoft) used by T-Mobile Sidekick customers for data services will no longer be available on Sidekick devices,” Microsoft and T-Mobile say in a statement.
A few weeks later, AT&T surprises the technology world with an agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA for $39 billion.
