Skorny

Hank Skorny announced last week his intentions to leave RealNetworks, the Seattle software company where he’d worked for the past two years as chief strategy officer. At the time, it was unclear what Skorny planned to do next. But, now, GeekWire has learned that the Seattle tech veteran has landed a new gig at Intel.

Skorny will become vice president and general manager of consumer services within the semiconductor giant’s Software and Services Group.

“In his role at Intel, Hank is responsible for the Intel strategy and delivery of a unified approach to Intel consumer services across the compute continuum, including Intel AppUp and other pending service transactions,” according to a memo on the appointment from Intel’s Renee James. The memo added that Skorny — who will be based in Redmond as of September 19th  — will help Intel increase revenue in consumer services and boost the company’s relevancy with consumers.

Skorny has been around the block in the Seattle tech industry. Prior to RealNetworks — where he oversaw the company’s Unifi media storage service — Skorny served as CEO of Thumbspeed. Before that, he held executive roles at AOL Mobile and InfoSpace.

He’s actually scheduled to speak this afternoon at the Mobile Future Forward conference in Seattle, and I am hoping to track him down to discuss more about what he’ll be doing at Intel. Stay tuned.
