Microsoft is still trying to carve off market share from Google in search. But, at least during the month of October, it had very little luck.

According to a new report by comScore, Google increased its lead ever so slightly in the U.S. over Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL. Google’s search share increased by 0.8 percent to 66.2 percent.

Yahoo lost 0.9 percent, dropping to 16.3 percent of all searches. And Microsoft saw a slight 0.2 percent gain, given the company and its Bing search engine roughly 13.6 percent of the market.

Google, by comparison, had 63.3 percent of the search market May.

Americans conducted 20.3 billion total core search queries in October, which was up 5 percent over September, according to comScore. Google ranked first with 13.4 billion searches (up 6 percent), followed by Yahoo Sites with 3.3 billion (down 1 percent) and Microsoft with 2.8 billion (up 7 percent).

Here’s a closer look at the search share numbers for October.
