George R.R. Martin

After visiting Amazon.com in Seattle recently, legendary fantasy and science fiction writer George R.R. Martin observed that the company was “selling lots o’ books.” He wasn’t kidding.

The author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, has become the latest person to sell more than 1 million Kindle books, marking his entry into the exclusive “Kindle Million Club,” announced Amazon.com this morning.

Others in the Kindle Million Club are Stieg Larsson, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Charlaine Harris, Lee Child, Suzanne Collins, Michael Connelly, John Locke, Janet Evanovich and Kathryn Stockett.

Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” series comprises five books so far, most recently “A Dance with Dragons,” which has been in the top 50 best-seller list for Kindle for more than 100 days.

“Groucho Marx once said, ‘I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member,’ but even Groucho might have made an exception for the Kindle Million Club,” Martin says in the Amazon news release. “It’s a real thrill to be inducted into this one. There are no dues, no meetings, and I’ll be in some wonderful and exclusive company.”
