Rob Greenlee and Luke Burbank conjur up some deep thoughts in the KIRO studios.

This week on a special edition of the GeekWire Podcast — a discussion about podcasting. Yeah, we’re going meta on you.

Trust us, it’s fun, and even enlightening, thanks to two great guests: Luke Burbank, the NPR veteran and KIRO-FM host responsible for the hit TBTL podcast; and Rob Greenlee, who was podcasting before it was called podcasting, and currently works at Microsoft, overseeing the podcast section of the Zune Marketplace.

We talk about how they both got started in podcasting, what makes for a good podcast, the current state of podcasting, video vs. audio podcasting, distribution technologies, podcasting apps, business models and opportunities, and lots of other topics that I vaguely recall as interesting. (Things got a little hazy after that second beer.)

Rob offers some good content advice for aspiring podcasters, based on his own experience and the trends he sees in his day job. And Luke — better known on NPR as “Luuuuuuke” — tells some funny (and instructive) behind-the-scenes stories about “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me.”

Here’s the MP3 file for this week’s show.

John will be back next week. Here’s the contest I mention at the end of the show. Thanks as always to KIRO’s Erynn Rose for putting the show together (and also taking the in-studio photo this week).
