When you cover the technology industry every day like we do, it can be a bit hard to break away from the daily grind. But every time we do, we end up learning something new; bumping into someone interesting; or finding that special nugget of a story.

Since starting GeekWire last March, we haven’t exactly been sitting around in our blogging caves. (We’ve covered dozens of events, from GeekGirlCon to Startup Day to Mobile Future Forward to today’s TechNW). But you’re going to start seeing even more of team GeekWire in the community in the coming months.

We’re getting ready to unleash the geeks with a series of fun and informative GeekWire-branded events, starting Oct. 27th with our inaugural GeekWire Meetup.

Want to meet fellow developers, entrepreneurs, artists or maybe that hard-to-find angel investor? Or do just want to break away from the cubicle for a couple hours to speak geek with some other smart folks in a fun setting?

Well, you’ve found the right spot.

The GeekWire Meetup will get rolling at 5:30 p.m. at the Spitfire bar in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. We’ll do a live version of our popular Name That Tech Tune trivia contest, which many of you have heard (and played) on the weekly GeekWire radio show/podcast.

Rich Barton

Then, at 6:30 p.m., it’s time for some startup insights from one of Seattle’s most accomplished entrepreneurs.

GeekWire’s John Cook will interview Zillow co-founder and former Expedia CEO Rich Barton in a rapid fire Q&A. There will be no shortage of topics to cover with Barton, but we’re especially looking forward to hearing about his approach to startups. (Maybe he’ll even tell us the back story of how Zillow scored the ticker symbol “Z” for its recent IPO).

You can purchase tickets for the GeekWire Meetup here. But don’t hesitate. Space is limited, and we’re expecting a sell out.

If you can’t make it out on October 27th, don’t worry. We’ve got some other really fun events in store, including one that may rival the over-the-top GeekWire launch party. Stay tuned for details.

Sponsorship opportunities for the Meetup and other GeekWire-hosted events are available by contacting Rebecca Lovell at rebecca@geekwire.com. Thanks again to everyone for your support of GeekWire.
