Darryl Philbin from The Office

Most computer users hated Clippy, the annoying paperclip-shaped virtual assistant from Microsoft Office. Darryl Philbin wasn’t one of them.

On tonight’s episode of The Office, the Dunder Mifflin employee was looking for a little assistance with his resume as he competed against the likes of Warren Buffett and Andy Bernard for the coveted branch manager job in Scranton.

Desperate for help with the resume, Philbin made a call to find out what happened to Clippy.

“Yes, there used to be a paper clip that would pop up and say: ‘looks like you are writing a letter or resume, would you like help?’ I believe his name was Clippy,” said Philbin.

Either Philbin hasn’t worked on a new PC in some time or Dunder Mifflin is still running old versions of Windows. After all, Microsoft killed off Clippy with the release of Office 2007.

The inability to locate Clippy didn’t seem to deter Darryl who emerged as one of the front runners to fill the shoes of Michael Scott as branch manager in Scranton.

He still faces some tough competition from Dwight Schrute, the beet farmer who posed as a burn victim in order to secure an interview for the job. But Schrute made his own high-tech faux pas when he tried to text his resume to no-nonsense Sabre CEO Jo Bennett.

“These are costing me 10 cents a piece you jack ass, I am roaming,” yelled Bennett in response to the text messages.

Hilarious stuff. Amazingly, this is the second time we’ve heard about Clippy in the past 30 days.

And, as an added bonus, here is Dwight as a burn victim.
