I’ve never seen so many geeks in one place. Emerald City Comicon — held this weekend at the Washington State Convention Center & Trade Center — attracted a wide array of trekkies, nerds and other characters, many of them wearing their favorite costumes from video games and sci-fi movies.

I snapped some shots of the action, just before William Shatner’s hilarious keynote in which he addressed audience questions about airplanes, music, ballet, comedy, his rivalry with George Takei and Captain Kirk’s on-screen death scene. More on that soon. But, first, some of the photos from this one-of-a-kind geekfest.

Just how packed was the event? More than 25,000 people were expected to attend. And by 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, all of the badges for the day had been handed out.

With the launch of GeekWire, we obviously had to be there to chronicle the action.
