Despite a rocky economy, more dollars continue to shift to online advertising. And that could be good news for a host of Seattle area technology companies, both large and small, from Microsoft’s Bing and Zillow.com to upstarts like Avvo and Wetpaint. The IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report indicates that $26 billion was spent on online advertising last year, up 15 percent over 2009 levels.

The most popular online ad format remains search, accounting for 45 percent of the overall revenue. Sponsorship revenue is growing the fastest, up 88 percent on the year. The IAB also has begun tracking mobile advertising, placing that at between $550 million and $650 million in the U.S.
