Well, the economy is in rough shape, and it’s still tough to find a job. But, somehow, more Americans are finding it in their budgets to own smartphones. A new survey out from Nielsen shows that 62 percent of 25-to-34 year old mobile users own a smartphone, well above the 43 percent for all Americans.

Amazingly, the number of smartphone owners in the 25-to-34 year-old demographic is also up from 41 percent during the third quarter of last year. Here’s a look:

The study also found that Android remains the most popular mobile operating system, with 43 percent market share. Apple had 28 percent; RIM had 18 percent; and Windows Phone had seven percent.
