Bsquare is pushing deeper into the European market today with the acquisition of MPC Data, a United Kingdom-based provider of embedded software engineering services. Bellevue-based Bsquare is paying about $4.8 million in cash for the company, which employs 52 people.

“We are focused on growing our product and service breadth and the geographies that we serve,” said Bsquare CEO Brian Crowley in a press release. “Our European expansion efforts began earlier this year when BSQUARE became an authorized Microsoft Embedded distributor in Europe. We did this knowing that key to our success would be the addition of a deeply technical team that understands what it takes to bring smart, connected devices to market.”

As a result of the acquisition, MPC Data’s Philip Buckley will become general manager of Bsquare’s new U.K. Development Center. MPC Data posted about $5.6 million in revenue last year, with the vast majority of that coming from European clients. If milestones are met, investors in MPC could receive an earn-out of $1.2 million.

Shares of Bsquare are down 47 percent so far this year.
