Last week, we told you about a new promotion from Bartell Drugs called “Free Print Weekend.” Essentially, it was a way for people who “like” Bartell’s on Facebook to receive up to 20 free photo prints from Kodak picture kiosks at the company’s 58 stores in the Puget Sound region.

So, how did the promotion — which ran over the past weekend — perform? We checked back in with Bartell’s today, and here’s the tally: It’s Facebook fan base grew by more than 50 percent, rising from 2,942 followers on Thursday July 28th (at the time our story was posted) to 4,664 today.

Howie Cohen, a general merchandise buyer at Bartell’s, noted that feedback was “very positive” and it achieved the goal of driving more awareness to the photo kiosks.  Those kiosks allow individuals to print photos from their personal Facebook galleries, combining the real world and digital world in a unique way.

The drug store chain, one of Washington’s oldest businesses, plans to offer additional photo-related deals in the future through Facebook.

As noted in the previous post, these types of promotions could be an interesting “loss leader” as a way to get customers into the stores. After all, the last time I went to Bartell’s, I picked up a few other essentials too.
