Amazon.com has made a point of calling its upcoming mobile marketplace for Android an “Appstore,” as opposed to an “App Store.”

So much for subtle distinctions. On the eve of the expected launch of the new Amazon store, news has broken of a suit filed by the iPhone maker against Amazon over its use of the phrase.

Bloomberg News broke the story of the suit a short time ago.

Apple is currently embroiled in a dispute with Microsoft over its attempts to register the “App Store” trademark, with Microsoft claiming that the phrase is too generic to be used by Apple alone.

Follow-up: Amazon.com opens its Appstore, Apple be damned
