In the spirit of keeping the community in the organization and the organization in the community, I will periodically give you an update on the operations of TechStars. I will point out any interesting factoids, tips, and miscellaneous information — that said, if you have any question at all about TechStars don’t hesitate to email and ask.
My top priorities for the month:
  1. Get the word out that applications for TechStars Seattle are open and applications are due June 1, 2010
  2. Find office space for TechStars
  3. Begin organizing TS4AD – TechStars For a Day which is on May 24, 2010
  4. Sponsor a closing dinner for the investors
GETTING THE WORD OUT
Feel free to copy and email the following to your entrepreneur friends wherever they may be

Sub:  Want funding and mentorship for your startup?

Get your startup funded and off the ground while learning from the best!  TechStars is a seed stage investment fund that provides seed funding for teams forming technology companies. You can apply to TechStars in Seattle at www.techstars.org/apply by June 1, 2010.

It’s a great market to be looking for office space. That said, we’ve had 2 really unique spaces fall through due to change of use permits.  We think we’ve got a nice space identified and we’re negotiating the lease now. Hard to say how it’ll turn out — Dave Schappell of TeachStreet is an informal real estate advisor advisor to TechStars.  He keeps lobbying and pushing for Capitol Hill. I’ll give you the inside scoop — the office, at this point, isn’t likely to be in Capitol hill  – sorry, Dave.

TECHSTARS FOR A DAY
This is likely to be our first event. The event is for all those who are seriously considering applying and attending.  It’s an all day event and is scheduled for May 24, 2010.
CLOSING DINNER FOR INVESTORS
This was one of my smarter moves — NOT.  I have a really great list of investors — all the venture capitalists in the city!  I was smart enough to try and throw a closing dinner for next week. Turns out next week is spring break and a large percentage of the investors are away with kids.  I have kids — I’m just not going away with them because we went skiing in February. Ooops. Now I have the tough call of keep the date or try and change the date!  I’ll let you know when I figure it out myself.
That’s it for now.
